Get up and running with After Action in under 10 minutes. Create your organization, run your first tabletop exercise, and review results.
After Action is a cybersecurity crisis readiness platform that combines tabletop exercise facilitation, AI-powered coaching, readiness scoring, and automated deliverable generation. This guide walks you through the essentials.
Step 1: Create Your Account
Navigate to the sign-up page and create an account using email/password or magic link authentication. You will be assigned the owner role for your organization automatically.
Step 2: Set Up Your Organization
After signing in, you land in the Ops Dashboard at /app/ops. From here:
- Open Settings and configure your organization name, industry vertical, and logo.
- Invite team members and assign roles (
admin,ops,client). - Set your industry vertical — this drives benchmark comparisons and threat intelligence filtering.
Step 3: Create Your First Engagement
Engagements are the top-level container for all exercise activity with a client.
- Navigate to Engagements and click New Engagement.
- Select a pricing tier (Foundation, Operational, or Enterprise).
- Assign a scenario from the built-in library or create a custom one.
Step 4: Build and Run an Exercise
- Open the engagement and click New Exercise.
- Use the Exercise Builder to configure objectives, injects, and participant roles.
- Invite participants via email — they receive a link to the Participant War Room.
- Launch the exercise from the Facilitator Control Room.
Step 5: Review Results
After the exercise completes:
- Readiness Score — 8-dimension assessment aligned to NIST 800-61.
- Gap Analysis — Identified weaknesses mapped to compliance frameworks.
- Deliverables — Auto-generated IR playbooks, triage checklists, and AAR reports.
- Decision Analytics — Participant leadership profiles and confidence trends.
